Brake fluid plays a key role in stopping a car from moving. In practice it looks like this:

the driver presses the brake pedal – brake fluid flows under pressure to the calipers – the pads shift towards the disc – the rotation of the disc slows down under the force of friction – the car wheel stops.

If you do not change/renew the fluid in time, there is a real risk of an emergency on the road.

How often to change?

You should not take only the recommendations of car manufacturers as a basis. The condition of the fluid directly depends on driving style and environmental conditions. A high probability of moisture ingress can reduce the boiling point of the solution and lead to vapor locking of the brakes. For this, 2-3% of the water accumulated throughout the year is enough. Loss of liquid transparency/appearance of impurities is a reason to immediately replace it.

Leakage due to technical damage is especially dangerous. In this case, it is strictly forbidden to drive until the problem is completely eliminated.

An “alarm signal” can be generated by the system through the instrument panel. But it is better to prevent it in advance. Regular inspection of the brake system reservoir will help avoid serious problems.

It is recommended to carry out a complete replacement every 2-3 years (if there are no reasons for premature intervention). Also with a mileage of 30-40 thousand km.

Main alarms:

  • when the brake is fully pressed, the car skids to the sides;
  • the brake pedal gently sinks to the floor, the grip is activated only at the very floor.

If a visual check does not produce results, then it is better to carry out a comprehensive diagnosis at a service station.

Selecting the right option

Basic selection rules:

  1. Give preference to the original brand from the car manufacturer. The brake system of the car is designed for certain fluid parameters.
  2. Never mix solutions of different classes.

Types of Brake Fluid

  • Mineral – for old cars. Pros: low aggressiveness to rubber, high lubricating properties, inexpensive. Cons: highly viscous at a temperature of -20, boiling point is low.
  • Synthetic mixture of ethers and polyglycols. Characterized by long-term operation. The price is average. There is only one drawback – it has the ability to absorb moisture.
  • Synthetic silicone. Absolutely does not absorb moisture. But it rarely fits standard rubber parts, so it is not used often, only for certain car models. High price.

Maintenance Features

You need to add brake emulsion when it drops to the “min” mark. About once a year.

With a complete replacement, the required volume of solution will be in the range of 0.75-1.5 liters.

Changing the fluid yourself takes several hours. There is a high probability of air getting into the brake system. A service station mechanic, having special equipment, will complete the task in 20 minutes.

Professional service station

The DK-AUTO service station in Kyiv will quickly replace the brake fluid, selecting its most optimal option. Prices for all auto components are below market prices. The assortment includes original parts and alternative ones from European manufacturers.
